How to use the macros available in the Central Repository?

The AUTOMADE Central Repository is a database of macros available to the entire company or selected teams. It is used to freely share created macros so that the proven automation solution can be used by all employees in the organisation. In this article we will tell you how to use macros from the Central Repository.

List of macros from the Central Repository

To view the macros made available by other users in the Repository, open the list view. In this list view macros are clearly divided into local macros and macros from the Central Repository. Running macros works in the same way in both cases. Select a specific macro from the list and click the Play button.

Notably, the macros available in the Central Repository cannot be edited by users. If a user wishes to modify a macro, they must save it locally on their computer and work on the macro within their robot. We tell more about this in the article “How do I edit a macro in the Central Repository?”.

Any robot’s user (with the exception of DESKTOP version owners) can upload the macro they have created to the Repository. However, before other employees can use it, it must be assigned to a specific group via the AUTOMADE HUB. This can be the whole company, a specific department or a project group. You can read more about this in the article “How to publish macros in the Central Repository?”.

IMPORTANT: in case a macro made available in the Central Repository uses files on disk, such as Excel sheets or PDF files, make sure that these files have the right names and are in the right places on disk. Why is this important?

Example:

A finance department employee has created a macro to fill in PDF documents. The macro uses an Excel file with client data to fill in the documents and a PDF template to fill in the data and export the finished files to a folder.

For the macro to run on other computers, the files in question must be present on those computers and have the same names. Otherwise the robot will not locate them nor execute the macro and will display a message that it has not found the required file.
